Hi Everyone,

One of you helped me discover some interesting tidbits about how names are displayed within the membership. Just so you know, I will be posting a video all about the forum (including this display name stuff), but wanted to add something here as well.

As some of you have likely discovered, your default forum display name (and blog comment name) is your full name. Hopefully this hasn’t made anyone feel uncomfortable! Obviously I want us all to be one big happy family here – but I’m not trying to force people out of their shells!

You can change your forum display name very easily in your “PROFILE” (one of the links you will find near the top of the forum page) – BUT there is a much better place to make the change – and that is on the MEMBERSHIP DETAILS page. You can access this page from the main home page of the website (see it over on the right hand side) or the members dashboard (see it over in the left sidebar).

You will find a section called “Display name publicly as” with a drop-down menu of various name options. Feel free to select one of these (especially if you were hoping to use your “USERNAME” as your main name around the membership) OR you can create something entirely new by creating a “Nickname” (you’ll see this section just above the public name section on the membership details page). When you create a nickname and click “update” it will be added to that drop-down list and you can select that.

Again – I’ll demonstrate this in the upcoming video as well – but hopefully this will help some of you get the ball rolling before then!
